Rain sprinkles the air clear. The road out is like a dream, the dense bushes promote tunnel vision. The audiobook is beautifully written, a glimpse into the author’s thoughts. Small bucks jump into the bushes, dung beetles make steady progress across the road as we wait.
We pop into Ponte de Ouro just to see the setup. We both decide that some sort of fancy coffee is on the cards, it falls short of our expectations. We pay tourist prices for some cashews that aren’t as good as those on the open road further north.

The woman at the boarder isn’t paying much attention to us, she gives us the wrong stamp and is angry at as when we come back to rectify it.
 
Kosi Bay is only 20 minutes from the boarder. I lock into a cat scratching session with a weathered looking, battle hardened, tips of the ears missing tabby. It tolerates it for a while, probably only because it was too hot to move around much.

Campsite 17 is the better one: a beautiful big tree that offers mottled shade wherever the sun might be, soft sand and the feeling of solitude that we’ve grown accustomed to. Julian attempts a hammock setting operation that risks life and limb. He concedes with two lower branches.
